Writing

Writing Intent

At Woodside, we believe that writing is an essential skill and the ability to write independently with confidence and accuracy is a tool which will support a child throughout their lifetime. It is our intent that students leave Year 6 wanting to, and being able to, express their thoughts and ideas clearly and creatively through the written word, for a varied range of purposes and audiences. Furthermore, we aim to ensure that every child develops a progressive understanding of grammatical conventions; is aware of the way in which punctuation aids understanding; and can apply spelling rules accurately. Creating writers who can compose, re-read, evaluate, edit and improve their work through the eyes of both a reader and a writer is what we strive to develop. We set high expectations for all of our children to take pride in their work and to leave for secondary school using a fluent, cursive handwriting style.
